What’s Menter Iaith Maelor? |
|
· A community based venture, which aims to develop the use of the Welsh language in the County of Wrexham. |
|
· An initiative working throughout the county and not just in Wrexham town. |
|
· The Menter is supported by the Welsh Language Board and by Wrexham County Borough Council. |
|
· It demonstrates the educational, personal and social advantages of being bilingual. |
|

Two languages – twice the choice |
|
|
|
Why do we need Menter Iaith Maelor? |
|
· Almost 28,000 of the people of Wrexham speak Welsh or have some ability in the language, and a third of them are under 19 years of age. |
|
· 10% of the county’s school children attend Welsh-medium schools – all other pupils learn Welsh as a second language. |
|
· Many organisations function through the medium of Welsh, and the Menter aims to co-ordinate and develop the provision. |

What does Menter Iaith Maelor do? |
|
· Provides opportunities for people of all ages to socialise in Welsh. |
|
· Brings organisations together in partnership in order to raise the profile of the Welsh language. |
|
· Encourages public bodies and businesses to make use of Welsh and ensure that more Welsh speakers and learners make use of the service. |
|
· Provides resources and information regarding Welsh medium activities in the County Borough of Wrexham. |
